Results of Public Opinion Survey in English
Dear Friends and Colleagues!
Last week we introduced you to preliminary results of our sociological research prepared by "Reflect", leading social research company in Sweden, in partnership with CAFMI.
Today, we introduce you the full version of the study. Recall that the study was conducted through online questionairres. It included questions that aimed at
- -identifying perception of and confidence in the Provisional Government
- -the relationship to air bases
- -corruption
- -other topical issues in Kyrgyzstan.
"Unfortunately, officials in Kyrgyzstan often make decisions with little or no consideration of public opinion. This survey was aimed at providing qualitative results of a study of public opinion on the events in the country", said Mirsulzhan Namazaliev, Executive Director of the Central Asian Free Market Institute. In the process of preparing results of the survey we filtered out irrelevant and inappropriate responses, which included obscenities and did not contain valuable information.
Summary the results. The study involved 569 people. 62% of the respondents consider April 7 events a popular uprising and only 14% called the events a revolution.
20% of respondents aged 16 to 25 years do not support the provisional government, while only 6% give positive assessment of its activities. Among the older generation, 46 years and above, 29% do not support the Provisional Government, and only 3% trust its actions. In general, 50% of the respondents support the government.
Among members of the provisional government, highest degree of confidence was in Roza Otunbaeva and the lowest level of confidence was in Almazbek Atambayev and Azimbek Beknazarov.
22.50% of the respondents want to see Roza Otunbaeva as next president of Kyrgyzstan. Most of the respondents, 49.38%, however, did not know who should be next president. 69.24% of the respondents did not know which party they plan to vote for in the upcoming elections. 9.67% of respondents plan to vote for the Social Democratic Party and 8,26% will vote for Ata-Meken party.
Chief recommendations to the Provisional Government were:
- -transparent and clear human resources policy (97.30%);
- -involving educated young people (92.50%);
- -stringent measures to combat corruption (92.50%);
- -reform of the security services( 91.50%)
- -ensuring independent work of the media (85.90%),
- -transparency and accountability to society (85.30%);
- -ensuring public safety (83,04%).
